The Nipple Syndrome
Are you sitting alone reading this blog from the comfort and privacy of your parent’s home? My bets are you just might be!After you hit the malleable, bewildering post-college-years, or if in case there was no college, circa 21+, you need to decide what to do with your life. Most see this as an engaging opportunity to really grab life by its balls, or in a more fitting case, nipples (no pun intended). This is your time to shine, and go out and show your parents that you are a big boy or girl, and you can really make something of your life!
The other half that gets left behind becomes complacent, and seduced by, wait for it… wait for it… THE NIPPLE-SYNDROME! This is when you are so comfortable with living at home, and off Mommy and Daddy’s penny, that you simply cannot bear to let go, because in fear that you might not make it all by yourself.
I too was once a victim of The Nipple-Syndrome, but that was simply for six-months following college. At first I was in total shock and awe. No more term-papers, instead they were now called bills.
“How was I to pay for what is to come?” I hastily thought.
Then I decided to be a big boy and move on out by my lonesome-self and start my adult-life. It was the best decision I had ever made. I simply packed up a suitcase one rainy April day and moved out west to California – the place where they always said, “Anything’s Possible”.
Not knowing a single-solitary-soul, I networked like you couldn’t believe, and made my way towards parent freedom. It has been about two years now, and I will not lie, through the ups and the downs, my Mother helped me out tremendously, but that is not to say that I did not do the majority of this with my own free will.
You will never feel like a real adult until the day you start paving your own path. Spending well over $2,000 per month on rent and expenses is quite simply put – liberating.
Give yourself every excuse in the book – “I’m saving up”, “I have no job”, “I have nothing to go off of”, or the best one – “My parent’s won’t let me”. When there’s a will, there’s a way.
None of these mean anything, except exactly what they are – excuses. You are only cheating yourself, and fooling nobody. Do what ya gotta do. Sleep on a friend’s couch. Deliver pizzas. Work as a temp. Do something!
As shitty as that may sound, you learn the rules of life when you don’t take everything for granted anymore. Unless you are born into wealth, you honestly have no other option. By delaying this process, you are only diminishing your future, and what could-have-become.
I hope this post has been as compelling for you to read as it was for me to write. I have so many friends from home, or college buddies that really need to wake up and smell the coffee… “Did I really just use that”? Now go on out, get the hell off the nipple and MAKE SOMETHING OF YOUR LIFE!
