5) J O H N  B O N H A M
John Started playing drums at the impressionable, young age of 5 years old out of coffee tins and containers. He wound up being the best drummer to ever live, for one of the greatest rock bands ever assembled- Led Zeppelin. His infamous “Moby Dick” solo consisted of a half-hour drum set, some of with bare-hands, and set an unobtainable precedent for drummers today.

Countless stories have been told, and all that knew him claimed he partied harder than any Rock n Roll bad boy out there. On the day of his death, it was reported that he drank 4 quadruple vodkas (16 shots) at breakfast alone. He continued to consume another 24, which resulted in pulmonary edema: waterlogging of the lungs caused by inhalation of vomit.

Numerous Magazines and publications have cited Bonham for being the greatest drummer ever, and that is why he reaches number 5 on the list.

4) J I M I  H E N D R I X
Jimi came out of nowhere, and moved nations with a single strum of his Fender Stratocaster. In ’69 he headlined Woodstock, and Isle of Wright in ’70. His onstage antics were legendary, where he would smash his guitars and then burn them while dancing to the fire. He partied with the Elite; The Beatles, Clapton, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin- they were all close friends.

It was a sad day for Rock n Roll when this icon passed away at the young age of 27, and joined the Forever 27 Club. To think of what he might have become today with all that talent and ability is astounding. Some may argue that Jimi never got the chance to peak his career. The exact cause of death is still not totally known, but it is confirmed that he had consumed an outstanding amount of sleeping pills that night and drowned himself in massive amounts of red wine.

Jimi Hendrix is widely considered to be the greatest guitarist of all time, and will continue to rock generations far beyond his grave.

3) B R U C E  S P R I N G S T E E N
When your nickname is “The Boss”, that has to stand for something. Bruce is the quintessential All-American singer-song writer of our times. He is everything the All-American rock n’ roll dream stands for. The respect and power he holds today is unparalleled, while standing as one of the most recognized political activist in music today.

Probably the only man in rock that you can say this about; you will never hear one bad word spoken about The Boss. 25 albums, 19 Grammys, 2 Emmys, 2 Golden Globes, 1 Academy Award, and 1 performance at Superbowl XLIII later, Bruce Springsteen is still rocking the nation as rock n’ roll’s classiest Alpha Male.

2) J I M  M O R R I S O N
The frontman of the Forever 27 Club, and The Doors, was an American singer-song writer, and poet. With his signature leather pants, and long curly black hair, Jim is the stereotypical rock-god prototype. He could have any woman he fancied, and they would die for a chance to simply be near him.  Men envy the fashion in which he was able to live, and rock-stars unsuccessfully mimic his stylistic mannerisms.

Jim lived by his own rules, living the life of a true extremist, which sadly ended up leading to his ultimate demise. He is one of the most recognizable faces in rock, and idolized by many musical geniuses to be their highest influence. Countless covers and references have been made about him, and one thing is for certain; his legend will never die.

1) E D D I E  V E D D E R
You can call it biased, and will argue this today, but 20 years from now you will not. If you look at what this guy has done for modern-day rock n’ roll, you will understand his claim to the throne. Alongside Cobaine and Cornell, the three of them started an entire new wave of music that was considered “Alternative / Grunge”.

The emotional energy, connection, and commitment Eddie gives to the crowd at each and every show is the father-son bond a fan dreams of. His signature on stage accommodations include either a bottle of whiskey or wine, which he cheers to the crowd throughout the night. I have seen Pearl Jam perform live on many different occasions, with every show being a completely unique, enthralling experience.

Eddie holds the wits and political activism of a Springsteen, with the rock n’ roll flare of a Morrison. He has supported the Kerry and Obama presidential campaigns, as well as numerous other arrays of causes.

In 1994, Pearl Jam boycotted Ticketmaster for 3 years due to venue monopolization.
At Lollapalooza in 2007, Vedder engaged the tens-of-thousands of concert-goers in a “FUCK BP!” chant, telling the crowd to boycott B.P. Amoco because they were caught polluting Lake Michigan.

In a 2005 USA Today reader’s poll, Pearl Jam was voted the greatest American rock band of all time. Eddie Vedder still has a long road-of-rock ahead, and will continue to transform this genre of music while ever evolving as a staple in today’s culture.
