Top Alpha Males In Film
5. M I C K E Y R O U R K E
The Guy won “Man of the Year” over Obama at the 2009 Guys Choice Awards, and “Man of the Year” in 2005 for Total Film Magazine.
His amazing comeback performance in The Wrestler, where he captivated audiences as The Ram with his nitty-gritty, play-it-to-the-bone approach really solidified his Alpha Male stature on this list.
Past stand out performances have included the deranged Uncle Pete in this year’s Informers, as well as the walking brick wall, Marv, in Sin City. He’s covered every badass role from a bounty hunter in Domino, to a meth cook in Spun and a malevolent bookie in Buffalo ’66. And we can never forget the acting alongside the late, great Tupac Shakur, from his self-penned film Bullet.
Oh ya, and when I met the guy earlier this year at a club, he stuck his hand out to shake mine. Now, that’s a class act if I’ve ever seen one. You Rock Mickey!
4. R O B E R T D E N I RO
When you’re mentored and known as Scorsese’s guy, then you know you’re in. Standing out at an early age as Johnny Boy in Mean Streets, De Niro’s career skyrocketed from then on.
He’s played the young Godfather, the young American psycho as Travis Bickle, and the fearless Deer Hunter. De Niro’s five-star credentials seem endless in his early years. He’s the golden- boy boxer, the Goodfella, and the Casino head. His array of roles stretches deep and leaves little to be played.
Although his career has been somewhat downplayed throughout the years with more “sell-out” roles, one can never argue that De Niro is not an Alpha Male for the big screen.
Anyone that ever gets the privilege to shake De Niro’s hand, makes sure they tell everyone that they shook De Niro’s hand.
3. J O H N N Y D E P P
The only reason why Johnny Depp isn’t number one on this list is because he does not hold that alpha male physique that his predecessors do. He has the most intriguing roster of roles that any actor has ever held. His on screen presence has become more fantastical than ever over the years.
Most recently he will be playing the Mad Hatter in the upcoming Alice in Wonderland. From Edward Scissorhands to Ichabod Crane all the way to Willy Wonka, the man is offered any and every super-fantasy role on the market. Good ol’ Captain Jack Sparrow never leaves an audience feeling empty.
His two stand out roles to date are as the super-whimsical Raoul Duke in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and George Jung in Blow. I am greatly anticipating The Rum Diary due out next year.
Johnny has taken Hollywood by storm, and is never looking back.
2. C H R I S T I A N B A L E
In every Alpha Male we see a competitive anger present, and so goes the case with Christian Bale’s flip out on the set of Terminator: Salvation. The flip out was a good thing however. It showed the world just how serious this man was about his craft.
Roger Ebert wrote in accordance to Bale’s role as Patrick Bateman, “Christian Bale is heroic in the way he allows the character to leap joyfully into despicability; there is no instinct for self-preservation here, and that is one mark of a good actor.”
Taken from moviebodycounts.com, Bale’s character of John Preston in Equilibrium tallied up 118 on screen kills and is ranked number three for most on screen kills of all time in film.
His dedication and conviction to portraying the very realness behind every role is extraordinary. The weight loss transformation he puts his body through in The Machinist and Rescue Dawn has seen to be unparalleled in film.
Try losing 63 pounds for The Machinist in a couple of months, and then gaining 100 pounds within six months for Batman.
He treats his body like it’s a temple, and holds the physique every Alpha Male strives for. Blowing his competition out of the water, and being the best Batman to date, he has a long road ahead of him.
Bale has played the second best Alpha Male role in film as the American Psycho next to…
1. B R A D P I T T
You guessed it. Only eight letters long… Brad Pitt. The guy’s name is just badass alone. Now he get’s to play the coolest guy on screen in Tyler Durden. Every straight male drooled over being him in Fight Club. We wanted to dress like him. To talk like him. To be HIM.
“All the ways you wish you could be, that’s me. I look like you wanna look, I fuck like you wanna fuck, I am smart, capable, and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.” ~ Tyler Durden
He’s the twisted serial killer in Kalifornia, the rookie detective in Se7en, the mentally-unstable Jeffrey Goines in Twelve Monkeys and Danny Ocean’s right-hand man.
Snatch shows us that this Pikey can knock anyone in the world out with one punch.
He’s played three of the coolest killers in history as the Ruthless Jesse James, Achilles of Troy and an Inglourious Bastard killing those damn Nazis!
It doesn’t hurt being married to the hottest woman on the planet, and both of you having bodies that Michelangelo couldn’t even sculpt; to become Numero Uno on this list of the Top Alpha Males in Film.
