Dressing today’s Alpha Male
Abercrombie, American Eagle, Gap etc. (you get the picture) are NOT KING.You do not necessarily have to be rockin’ Prada, Dolce, or Hugo Boss, but get something similar. The whole laid back, beach boy look was King 10 years ago… not anymore.
Also, the Affliction / Ed Hardy died a good 3 years ago. You are not tough and/or cool wearing this stuff. If you are an MMA fighter or rapper, sure go ahead, but if you are trying to look stylish and get chicks to drool over you- you’re over it.
Some tips on how to dress:
1) Baggy Jeans are out:
Go with either a straight leg, or bootcut. Depending on your style, and hopefully we can change it, either one will work. I personally like straight leg for the fact that I’m really into my kicks and with a straight leg you can see more of the shoe.
Favorite brands: Diesel, Seven for all Mankind, Adriano Goldschmied
2) Try to go designer, seriously:
Like I said, you do not necessarily need to go designer, but it will make a HUGE difference in your first impression. You can get away with getting something similar looking, but nothing beats the real thing. If you’re thinking, “fuck there is no way I can afford to spend $200 on a Hugo Boss shirt”, don’t worry there is ways around it.
• Never feel ashamed to go to discount stores, such as Loehmann’s(my favorite) Nordstrom Rack (my 2nd favorite), Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or whatever is around you. I have found some of the Kingest (yes I am totally raping this word) clothes out there from those spots for dirt cheap!
• Ever hear of Ebay? Yet again another goldmine. You can get reallllly nice clothes off here for dirt cheap, just make sure that you do your research before buying the product to make sure they are authentic. However, even if you do get sold a fake, PayPal is really good with refunding your money.
• Thrift Stores are even cheaper! Who cares if someone else wore it before- It’s called a washing machine. Depending on the geographical region you live in, some of these thrift stores ONLY carry designer. You can find a vintage Lacoste shirt for like $5 buckaroos!
• EVERYONE loves a sale. If you don’t mind waiting, and are a risk taker, then wait for the sale. My favorite stores hands down are Bloomingdales and Nordstroms. A lot of times employees in the store will tell you when items will be going on sale if you ask. And that segues into the last tip…
• ASK YOUR FRIENDS. You will be amazed at who / what your friends know, or even what they are willing to give ya! I get hooked up all the time from friends who have friends that work at stores. Or better yet, if you like something your friend has, do an ol’ fashion barter.
3) A solid pair of kicks never die:
I’m a sneaker KING. You can never go wrong with a good pair of Nike Air Max. If you’re going for a more casual look, Converse have, and always will be King. John Varvatos makes some great Cons, although they are a little pricier, but well worth it. Don’t forget your Puma’s either. With sneakers you can get away with a lot, just be innovative and don’t be afraid to stand
out and show your style.
Favorite Brands: Nike, Converse, Puma
As far as dress shoes go, you can get away with a lot. You should always have a nice pair of brown, black and white shoes. Yes I said white; you never know when you will go to a white party or simply want to make a statement. Obviously going designer is much preferred, but you can find some great shoes at some of the discount stores that I listed above. Nordstrom Rack always has tons of good men’s shoes.
Favorite Brands: Prada, Ferragamo, Mark Nason
4) Own a nice fitted suit:
And I’ll say it again, make SURE it fits. Nothing looks better and more impressionable on a man than a nice fitted suit. Whether you’re going on a job interview, wedding, dinner-date or whatever the occasion calls for, you always want to make a statement when you dress up. This is your ultimate time to shine and show that you are royalty.
Recommended colors: Black, Grey, Pinstripe.
5) Accessorize:
Sure you heard the saying: It’s the little things that count. Well it’s true with clothing as well. Get a necklace, watch, bracelet, something for someone to notice and compliment you. Women love to see a half naked man wearing a cool chain or nice watch.
Favorite Brands: Chrome Hearts, Breitling
And there you have it. Now that we have your dress down, you’re on your first steps towards becoming the Alpha Male of today. I’ve recommended below some clothes that I would definitely call King Quality. Simply click the link and you can be re-directed to purchase the item if you like.
